I'm slightly worried the Muslim Council of Britain poked their head above the parapet at all. I'd assumed that they'd try to lie low because they wouldn't be able to take sides without annoying someone. Defend Rushdie and they look like they've sold out to the establishment; attack him and they look petty, vindictive, and indifferent to the ludicrously disproportionate penalty already exacted on him. But apparently that doesn't bother them.

From (very vague) recollection, the MCB occasionally dig their heels in and refuse to be dragged into the Century of the Fruitbat...
