Have just been informed that some of E. E. 'Doc' Smith's books are out of copyright and freely available on the interweb, at http://www.thalasson.com/gtn/gtnletS.htm#smithedw - I'm looking forward to re-reading some I haven't in many years.

Mind you, that's not always pleasant. The other week, I found Being a Green Mother - one of the Incarnations of Immortality series, by Piers Anthony, which I used to love - in a charity shop. I knew by now he was bad, but that was painful. You know how some writers can strike notes of purest gold, some of silver, and so on?

Anthony's bell is purest cardboard.

Concur about the bell. But I do have a soft spot for the Incarnations books, which I read a long, long time ago, and besides, the wench is dead.

I can't plough through the second one these days, though.

I haven't tried to re-read any of them except this one, mostly through not having access I think. I vaguely want to read the 3rd again at least.

I read and enjoyed Battlefield Earth when I was about 14. I mean, really enjoyed it.

I remember my first - and only - Piers Anthony book. All the boobies were a bit of a turn-off, and the punning was just salt in the wound. :p

I liked the punning.
