So. All over for another year, with the exception of the financial fallout and the inevitable I'm-not-doing-this-again.

We've been doing this for five years now, and the Great Samba Ramble has got better and better, but it's been a terrible strain this year to get all the other things organized and timed, and we were severely lacking both staff and logistics.

I really want to help and to make things work, and I know I can with enough of a run-up, but in order to get that I need more information than I did. Mind you, I'll admit that that's largely my own fault, in not asking for it, but being asked the week before the Festival what I'd like to do pretty much guarantees that all I'll get are the grunt jobs.

[Background for those of you who aren't familiar with my situation: I can't commit to regular work or even to being present at any given non-time-critical point, due to depression and panic attacks. These people all know that, so they assume I'll say if I want to take something on.]

Next year, though, we'll be a) looking at a new management structure (as in, he cynically observes, it might be a good idea to have one) and b) constraining ourselves to the Samba Ramble itself, not the six hours of events beforehand in the town centre and in Castle Park.

Mind you, that leads logically to running the event in the park afterwards too (which as [livejournal.com profile] raggedrags will tell you wasn't too bad at all, with Europe's top swing band, the Jive Aces, and the batteria between all six of the samba bands who played and danced in the Samba Ramble).

But if we're not rolling out musicians, dancers, and varied and miscellaneous street entertainers during the day, then we won't have to be there since 7 am in the rain, and we won't have to negotiate with the privately-owned-shopping-centre staff over electricity supplies or moving on overly loud bands who want to sell their own merchandise without a trading license.
