Visualizing the All

Which of these two pictures best represents the way the human race understands existence? Black stands for what we know, white stands for what we don't know.

NB: These are intended to be viewed on a white background. So any overall squareness you may see in the second picture is purely an artifact of the medium.

Then using those pictures as analogies, I think people in general perceive their understanding as being analogous to the first picture, but our actual understanding is more analogous to the second. (which is to say that we assume we know more, and that our knowledge is better organized, than it in fact is)

(I'm not sure I'm making sense, forgive me!)
