Which of these two pictures best represents the way the human race understands existence? Black stands for what we know, white stands for what we don't know.

NB: These are intended to be viewed on a white background. So any overall squareness you may see in the second picture is purely an artifact of the medium.

Actually I have a difficulty with the question: is it which picture represents what we actually understand about human existence, or what we think we understand about existence?

I just don't visualise knowledge and awareness. And I certainly wouldn't presume to know how the rest of the human race did.

Are you asking whether scientific discoveries have laid out a general framework for the understanding of the universe, or whether they have only created a few loosely linked areas of knowledge?

I'm not sure that the human race understands existance at all. But if it does, it would be in the fluffy way of picture two i think.
