Lazyweb request: Websites

I've decided that I want a website of my own, in addition to the collection of Web 2.0 crap I've collected. (A more verbose explanation of reasons will be forthcoming later.) Nominet were quite helpful in explaining how things worked, but now I need to ask for a recommendation for domain name registry & web hosting. Disrecommendations would also be much appreciated, if anyone feels the need.

I want cheap & fairly reliable - I don't need massive amounts of storage or secure server access.

Domain name: I've been using http://123-reg.co.uk/ (the new Pipex, a branch of Telenor) for a while. Cheap and everything can be set up from their site - name servers, MX, whatever. They do whole-domain mail forwarding free (so anything@[domain] goes to the address of your choice).

They'll also host the site for you for a few quid, though I have no idea how good that is.

http://davidgerard.co.uk/ and http://reddragdiva.co.uk/ are hosted on a friend's site in the US, http://www.wefixtech.co.uk/ - we're a typical mate's-rates-quality host, i.e. it mostly works and sometimes it doesn't. That's plenty good enough for me. Your mileage may vary.

I do domain registration & hosting via BCN. They're friends of friends and they do brilliant customer support ie. they answer emails in 1/2 an hour and can sometimes be poked on IRC. I wouldn't vouch for them being the cheapest, because that wasn't the key thing for me. I'm Not A Geek (TM) and I need somewhere reliable to do my hosting with good customer service.

If you were here in Canada, or even on this side of the pond at all, I'd offer to do it for you myself through work - we have a variety of domain registration and hosting packages.

You're better off with something local, though. :D

I register via lowcostnames but only because I am lazy and they do free forwarding. If you are after a really, really cheap hosting experience then be nice to me as I have 996ish extra spaces for sites I can add onto my own plan and so much space that it's stupid. You can manage your own area too. Yours for a mere £0.00.
