I propose a summer picnic in a London park, combined with a readthrough of Midsummer Night's Dream. It's a terrible cliche, but that's no reason not to do it.

From my point of view, the best date is Saturday 11th July - not only is it better for availability, but it's also the day after my one-year dating anniversary with [livejournal.com profile] mirabehn, so celebrations are definitely in order.

I haven't settled on a park yet; advice from those more experienced at arranging London picnics would be lovely. Partners, small children, and pets will be very much welcome.

Beneath the cut, find ye a poll and a rubric thereunto.

I'd like to use a full cast, with no doubling. This means that some people will get less to do than others, and some people will get less to watch than others, but that's how it goes. It will be a modern dress production, mostly, so don't worry about costume (unless of course you want to) and don't go overboard with props (unless of course you want to).

In the interests of not disappointing people unnecessarily, I will almost certainly be casting myself as Puck (though you do have a small chance to persuade me otherwise, if you really want to and think you'll be good at it). If you don't get the part you wanted, or even don't get a part at all (if we have that much interest - there are 23 parts) then it isn't because I don't like you or admire your acting, and it definitely isn't because I don't want to see you.

I think my poll answers are a little demanding, but no point not stating my preferences, right? I'd be pleased to be invited at all :) I'm not sure I've actually done MSND with readthroughers, or if I have it was really a *very* long time ago.

They're not demanding at all, and it's always a good thing to state preferences, especially when you state them so nicely and accomodatingly!

Sounds like an excellent idea! I'd love to be invited and to play a part, if possible. Although I'm still not sure what my summer-plans are, I shall definitely keep this date in my diary. ^_^

I'm entirely happy to play smaller parts or ones I've not requested, although the "don't cast me as" is more of a hard limit.

If you hosted in Finsbury Park then I'm happy to offer my flat as an emergency venue but it's small enough that readthroughing would probably have to be done sitting down. It does have the advantage of lots of cheap food places nearby.

I appreciate the offer - definitely one to keep in mind.

I'd been figuring on the hard limit, but thanks for the reminder in any case - these things are always useful.

Finsbury Park would have the advantage of being very easy for Freda and I to get to. :-)

I second Krapy Rub Snif, as it's dead easy from Welwyn Garden, too.

What a lovely idea.

Alexandra Palace, I'd suggest.

oooh, yay! :o) :o) i'd love to have one of the big girl parts, but i'd be predictably and entirely happy with anything. Can't sing well tho. (altho doesn't one of the lovers have a crow's voice, or something? that's, er, appropriate...) :oP

I've answered: thank you for emailing me, as I would surely have been too dense/busy offline to have spotted the poll!
It sounds like an absolutely lovely idea: consider Hampstead Heath as it is roomy and very very woody and beautiful?

One small caveat: I will be flying to Italy the next day (Sun 12th, and it could be quite early) so cannot stay late: an early-ish start and early finish (for the play at least!) would be really really appreciated if you want to cast me :-)

The poll isn't working for me for some reason, but I'd love a part!

Chloe and I would be delighted to attend, and I probably should have said above, I'm happy to pass on acting if you get lots of people who wants parts and just be the dog wrangler.

I have been exceptionally predictable in the parts I've very hopefully asked for, but would be happy simply to turn up and watch and applaud. *grins*

Sounds cool but I can't commit! I think I'd be a better watcher, really.

Fab idea, especially if it's in the afternoon and the [livejournal.com profile] quatlet can be a small Mystical Shape... can't commit yet though.

Happy to be flung a script and given a spare part on the day - I can do expressive reading but my body can't act at all.

That sounds good to me. I'm figuring on about a 1pm or 2pm start at the moment, so it ought to be [livejournal.com profile] quatlet-compatible.

Re location, I particularly like Hampstead Heath and Ally pally, though the latter may be a bit too sloped, and it also tends to depend what's going on at the palace that day. HH is great, but not brilliantly served by public transport (210 bus tends to be the best bet).

If this is going to be a full acted readthrough, I have a slight preference for somewhere not too crowded (eg not central London), because I really dislike something we want to do being disrupted by people whose idea of a good time is to wreck it.

Don't fancy some Shakespeare in Dorset this weekend, do you?

!!!!! Oh, I'm not a huge fan of Dream, but this still sounds wonderful. I've never gotten to do an outdoor play, and lately I dream of outdoor picnics. Wish I could come!!

What a wonderful plan.
strangederby2 and I would love to take part. Since we will have our 5 year old offspring with us we don't both want big parts, so either one part for strangederby2 or a small for part each of us, not on stage simultaniously.

I assume I can come and would like to, but would know for certain closer to the time and so certainly wouldn't assume there would still be parts even if I can.

You would be extremely welcome! I'm probably going to cast the main roles relatively early, and leave the smaller ones provisional till quite late in the process, so you'll still be in with a chance.

I'm quite comfortable with that, and it would be nice to see you there.

The only proviso though is that we'd normally be sitting on the ground, so you might want to plan for comfort.

I may or may not be able to make it having got two other parties clashing that day, but I really have not idea what time they start, and the might be just evening things, or not. I'd like a part if I did turn up, but right now I don't know if I can or not. It probably shouldn't be a big part, therefore. I'll try and let you know one way or the other as soon as I know if I'm likely to be able to make it or not.

Will do whatever you want. I'll probably be bringing Chilperic. He has things like a guitar lute, various pipes and bagpipes. Let me know if I should "encourage" him.

[Haven't acted in years, but am a very good "cold" reader, so can be assigned at the last minute if you have gaps.]
